Despite the drama, time seems to stand still in this superlative park. Lions sit majestically on towering cliffs, giraffes walk gracefully into the sunset and crocodiles bask on the banks of rivers.
The dramatic western escarpment of the Rift Valley forms the western boundary of the park. To the east lies the alkaline Lake Manyara, which covers a third of the park but shrinks considerably during the dry season.
